Community Learning Disability Service provides specialist healthcare services for people with learning disabilities who are 18 years and over.

The Community Learning Disability Service is multidisciplinary and services include:

  • Behaviour therapy
  • Medical outpatients
  • Nursing
  • Occupational therapy (not available in Thurrock)
  • Physiotherapy (not available in Thurrock)
  • Psychology
  • Speech and language therapy

Speech and Language Therapy

The speech and language therapy service provides high quality, professional service to people with learning disabilities who may also have communication and/or difficulty with eating or drinking. This is provided in a variety of ways:

  • Assessment
  • Differential diagnosis
  • Treatment where appropriate
  • Advice
  • Training and education for all staff involved with the client group

The Children's Learning Disability Service

The Children’s Learning Disability Service is a multi-professional healthcare team who assess and treat children with moderate to severe learning disabilities who exhibit difficult to manage behaviours. 

The team includes registered LD Nurses and Sensory Integration trained Occupational Therapists, alongside support staff.

The aim of the service is to identify the function to a child’s difficult to manage behaviour, including any sensory processing problems impacting on their behaviour, and use this to inform a Behaviour Management Plan to help modify the behaviour and improve the child’s overall wellbeing and level of functioning.

Support for people with learning disabilities

Essex Cares Limited provides services across Essex to support adults with learning disabilities and autism. 

This service helps people to participate in meaningful activities within their local communities, they are encouraged to learn new skills, gain independence and benefit from having access to a highly skilled in-house clinical team who offer a range of therapies including:
